Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contest (17th August 2016)
It’s that time of the year again for our annual Humorous Speech
and Evaluation Contest.
For the benefit of non-toastmasters, a humorous speech is a 5-7
minutes speech and contrary to what the name implies, it is not usually a funny
speech with jokes, after all this is not a comedy festival. Rather, more often
than not it is a serious speech told in a humorous manner. Material must be
substantially original, thematic in nature and not be an act or monologue. It
is imperative that it is “clean” humour. The speech is evaluated for its
content, delivery and language.
The Evaluation Contest is just as what its name implies, it is a
contest on speech evaluation. After hearing the test speaker, contestants will
study and deliver their critiques. They are evaluated on their analytical
quality, recommendations, technique and summation.
